When I need a break from writing freelance articles, interviewing sources, and emailing editors and freelance content marketing clients, I love to listen to podcasts for freelancers as well as a few other categories of podcasts.
I love to listen to a podcast for freelance writers that teaches me something or gives me fresh insights into a new topic.
I used to mainly listen to podcasts in the business, personal finance, productivity, and health genres, but, as the podcasting world has grown exponentially in recent years (it’s expected to jump 45 PERCENT to 1.13 billion) I add more podcasts about freelancing, content marketing and the business of freelancing when I find some I like or I hear someone interviewed on another podcast.
Listening to podcasts for freelancers while walking my dog, or running errands and driving helps me feel productive, and I try to pick up some interview tips from the freelance podcast hosts. Sometimes I’ll even discover new freelance writing websites for freelancers to check out.
Download these podcasts for freelance writers, in no particular order. These podcasts for creative professionals in 2025 have been updated to reflect my recommendations and those of other freelance writers.
Here are the top 5 podcasts I listen to each week.
(Updated April 2025)
Freelance writer and coach Ed Gandia interviews freelance writers and various freelancers to learn about their successful careers, how they got to where they are now, and their advice for other freelancers. I love hearing about the different types of freelancers out there, as well as hearing that they have some of the same challenges and struggles I do. If you want to learn more about business writing as well as how to find high-paying freelance clients, Gandia’s guests have good advice on how to do that. He discusses AI trends more lately and how to use AI in your business to save time while still being ethical, strategic, and maintaining your creative skills.
I met Melanie at an ASJA conference a few years ago but was already listening to her podcast about freelancing. She’s not about the “feast or famine” mode of freelancing and encourages freelance podcast listeners to earn higher incomes doing work they love. As of spring 2025, she’s been releasing episodes for over six years. She also has a lot of great interviews with industry veterans I admire who share helpful, actionable tips in this freelance podcast. Melanie recently featured some of my time-tracking tips for freelancers on a podcast episode. Listen to it here.
Longtime listeners of this freelance writing podcast with freelancer friends Emma Siemasko and Kaleigh Moore will appreciate the “catch up” after a significant season break amongst the two friends. But, if you’re new to this freelance podcast from the duo, I suggest starting at the beginning. One of the wonderful things about following along with podcasters who share their lives over the digital airwaves is that you get to know them at various stages in their lives and careers. I think Moore and Siemasko do a great job discussing topics freelancers care about, like how AI is changing the landscape, the impact having small children can have on your business, and whether it’s time to go back to a full-time job. They have a lot of great advice in relatable conversations with one another that feel like you’re catching up with a freelance buddy over coffee.
I’ve been listening to Latasha’s podcasts for freelancers for about a year or so (and occasionally tune into her YouTube channel) but she’s been a full-time freelance entrepreneur for well over a decade. Her background is more freelance social media management but she seems to have a down-to-earth but driven approach to freelancing that I love. James is the go-to source I like to listen to (or watch, seriously her YouTube videos are so well done) for anything related to social media trends.
What’s interesting about my journey to discovering this podcast for freelancers is that I’ve transitioned from more journalism freelance writing or editorial writing to content marketing over the years and learned a great deal from marketing podcasts for freelance writers like this one. Many of Ilise’s interviews seem to be with her freelance coaching clients (or freelance experts who pitched her) but she tackles specific topics in this podcast for freelancers that I find helpful in my freelance writing business, like discovering a high-paying freelance niche, creating sales funnels, passive income, and more. Even if you’re not doing much content marketing writing–it’s one of the types of freelance writing that pay well!–I think freelancers will get helpful business tips from these relatively short conversations and expert interviews in this podcast for freelancers.
I didn’t know veteran freelancer Treasa Edmond had her own podcast until Melanie Padgett Powers (above) mentioned it on the LinkedIn thread where I asked for the best podcasts for freelancers. I’ve been reading Edmond’s emails for quite some time and we are in a few professional freelance groups on Facebook where she always gives thoughtful, smart responses as to how she makes her six-figure freelance business work. Many of the guests on her freelance writing podcasts are names I know and admire in the business. Based on these details alone, I feel comfortable recommending Edmond on my list of the best freelance writing podcasts.
This podcast for B2B marketers hosted by Jade Tambini was recommended by a few folks on my LinkedIn page. I’ve been diving into B2B topics for editorial clients and exploring more B2B content marketing efforts as well so this likely a great podcast for anyone curious as to how to improve their marketing skills, stay up to date on marketing trends for these audiences, and write better B2B copy.
This podcast for freelance writers host Rachel Meltzer makes her freelance business work while being a digital nomad. Her video podcast for freelancers and audio involves interviewing other entrepreneurs who run similar businesses while working from various places around the globe. I already read Meltzer’s weekly email newsletters for freelance writers and dig her writing style and information so I can imagine this podcast has a lot of great content for freelancers who want to know how to run their businesses strategically while traveling the world.
With so many podcasts for freelancers out there, it can be tough to know how to divide your time.
I hope this list helps you find some new personal favorites and discover the best podcasts for freelancers to listen to that help your business.
I posted on my LinkedIn page where if have nearly 14,000 followers, to get the top podcasts for freelancers that my audience recommends I share in this list and add to my queue. That was my starting point. I’ll also check out guest posts’ podcasts if I enjoyed what they shared on one of my favorite podcasts for writers’ episodes.
In my early days of being a freelancer podcast listener, I was living in New York City and would download them to my iPod to listen to while riding the subway. (Yes, I know I’m dating myself!)
Now, I listen to podcasts for freelancers while driving kids to and from schools, while walking the dog, and sometimes while doing chores like cleaning or folding laundry or even cooking.
